20 years ago (1989)

Inspired by a St. Cloud woman's account of how Habitat for Humanity helped her, Brainerd's fledgling chapter of the organization moved closer to reality with 45 community members organizing into five committees.

30 years ago (1979)

A weekend trip to the Trout Lake Bible Camp ended abruptly in Brainerd when a converted school bus left the road and rolled over, sending 27 Twin Cities people to St. Joseph's Hospital.

40 years ago (1969)

The first meeting of the school term for the Lowell School PTA will be tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. Principal Emil Frank will talk about school patrol safety, Leo Moran will discuss bus safety and Police Chief Bill Fitzsimmons will speak on bicycle safety.

60 years ago (1949)

Kermit Aase, athletic director of Brainerd public schools, is the new president of the Great Central Amateur Baseball League. Aase, who has been active in baseball for many years, was a relief pitcher last summer for the Brainerd Braves.

80 years ago (1929)

For shooting at ducks after sundown, five hunters at Molly Lake over the weekend were fined $10 each plus costs in municipal court this morning. Charges were brought by Deputy Warden. A.P. Cardle, who was present at the time of shooting.

100 years ago (1909)

W.D. McKay is confined to his bed by bruises received in a runaway yesterday. His team became frightened and dragged him some distance. The wagon ran over one leg but no bones were fractured.
