20 years ago (1984)

State Auditor Arne Carlson, in releasing last week the financial health profile of Brainerd, commented, "Economic trends here show as many favorable signs as warning signs, while the city itself is in good financial condition overall."

30 years ago (1974)

Fifty-seven forest fires have erupted in the Brainerd area since the start of the month. One of the most effective tools in spotting and stopping those fires is a small single-engine airplane.

40 years ago (1964)

Edward Brophy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Brophy, Route 1, Brainerd, and a member of the Buffalo Creek 4-H Club for the past six years has been named one of the four top 4-H club members in Minnesota.

60 years ago (1944)

Jack Anderson, who for the past 12 years has operated Anderson's Shoe Store, today announced the official opening of his new store in the Elks Building, Laurel Street, across the street from his old location.

80 years ago (1924)

Oak Lawn Gems: John Gernamen is very proud of his house. A wild cat has been killed in the neighborhood this week. School opened last Monday in District No. 5 with Miss Lillie Meyers as teacher and an attendance of 28 people.
