FERGUS FALLS -- A quick start and 500 yards buried the Central Lakes College football team Saturday as the Raiders lost 33-14 to the Fergus Falls Spartans.
The loss drops the Raiders to 0-2 in the North Division, 2-5 overall.
The Spartans piled up 507 total yards to CLC's 327 as Fergus Falls scored 20 first-quarter points to put the game away early.
"Their team speed was too much for us," Raiders coach Dennis Eastman said of Fergus Falls.
After that opening-quarter outburst, the Raiders outscored Fergus Falls 14-13. CLC quarterback Brian Larson connected with Daryl Burch on a 7-yard touchdown pass and Marc Steffens for a 25-yard score. Larson finished with 216 yards passing and threw two interceptions.
Raiders running back Maurice Mays combined for 116 yards. He rushed for 37 yards and caught five passes for 69 yards.
"As our numbers dwindle more players are playing both ways," Eastman said. "This gets us physically tired. Brian Homan played every down except 10 plays on offense and defense. He played his heart out."
