20 years ago (1990)

(Photo) Mr. and Mrs. George Horn of Pillager were among the many who ventured out in harsh weather to watch the Huskies win their last game of the season, 14-0 over Ashby. Four other area games were postponed due to the snow, the first of the season.

30 years ago (1980)

An Edina man escaped with minor burns after he kicked his way out of a flaming truck, according to the State Patrol. The victim was briefly trapped after his pickup blew a tire and ran off Highway 18 and rolled over several times.

40 years ago (1970)

(Photo) Herbert Frink of Crosby caught this 10-pound walleye while fishing in the Mississippi River north of Aitkin, using a shiner minnow for bait.

60 years ago (1950)

(Photo) Don Raymond, proprietor of Don's Caf, and Lenny Boeder, owner of Boeder's Diner, go into training for the pancake supper to be sponsored by the Civic Association. Each restaurateur says he can out-eat the other in the pancake field.

80 years ago (1930)

Chased by two huge bears believed hungry enough to kill, seven purebred cows became frightened and plunged over a 30 foot cliff into the Mississippi and drowned. The owner, a Perry Lake farmer, has organized a group of farmers to hunt and kill the bruins.

100 years ago (1910)

The first petition presented to the city council last night was from 24 property owners on North Broadway asking that the street be curbed and boulevarded from Kingwood north to Ivy Street. They further asked the work be done this season and the council concurred.
