George Norskov, age 92, of Brainerd, passed away late Friday night at the Woodland Good Samaritan Village. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at the 300 Building Chapel of Woodland Village. Burial will be in Camp Ripley State Veterans Cemetery at Little Falls, Minn. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to the American Cancer Society.
George Louis Christian Norskov was born on Feb. 29, 1912, in Elsmore, Kan., the son of Christian and Catherine (Schall) Norskov. He was called from this life on Friday night, Oct. 15, at the Woodland Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd, having attained the age of 92 years, seven months and 16 days.
At an early age George's family moved to Albion, Neb., where he grew up and attended school. After his schooling he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June of 1931, serving his country until July of 1953. He was extremely proud of serving on the U.S.S. Arizona from 1931-1937. On July 12, 1959, he was united in marriage to Jean Mae Kampmann in Nisswa, Minn. To this union two children, Perian and Christian, were born. George and Jean were able to share over 45 years of marriage together. After moving to the Brainerd Lakes area in 1955 he worked for Northern Outboard and Northern Outdoors and Sportscraft for 24 years before retiring in 1979. Among the things he enjoyed doing were fishing, boating, hunting and taking great pride in manicuring his lawn. He was a former member of the Brainerd Elks Lodge, the North Port American Legion and was currently a member of the U.S.S. Arizona Survivors Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Christian and Catherine; brothers, Irvine and Clarence; and sisters, Viola Young, Ethel Berry, Nora Robinson and Bertha Young. George is survived by his wife, Jean, of Brainerd; children, Perian (Richard) Stavrum, of St. Joseph, Minn. and Christian (Susan) Norskov, of East Gull Lake, Minn.; sister, Louise Schroeder, of Albion, Neb.; and brother, Raymond Norskov, of North Hollywood, Calif.
Services are entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter, Minn.
