More than 1,000 people filled the Brainerd High School gym Saturday to say goodbye to their hometown soldiers as they headed off for duty in Iraq.

Tearful departure scene repeated in Wadena
WADENA -- In scenes that were repeated in high school gyms in Wadena, St. Cloud and Brainerd on Saturday, area families held each other tightly as they shared a tearful goodbye with the 152 Minnesota Army National Guard soldiers in Company A, 1st Battalion, 194th Armor.

George Norskov, age 92, of Brainerd, passed away late Friday night at the Woodland Good Samaritan Village. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at the 300 Building Chapel of Woodland Village. Burial will be in Camp Ripley State Veterans Cemetery at Little Falls, Minn. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to the American Cancer Society.
