BAXTER - Helen Jane Murray, age 91, of Baxter, died Oct. 15, 2009, at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Baxter. Services will be Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter with Deacon Roger Marks officiating. Visitation is from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Evergreen Park, Ill. Services entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
Helen Jane Murray was born Dec. 15, 1917, in Laporte, Ind., the daughter of Dan and Anna Chmurynsky. She was raised on a farm near Glen Flora, Wis. She then moved to Chicago in 1933 where she lived until November 2002 when she moved to Minnesota.
Helen worked 35 years for Johnson and Johnson Co., Chicago, where she received many commendations and especially for her part in the development of the flesh colored bandage. She was also a Union Steward. Her favorite hobbies were to travel and play golf. Helen was an exceptionally good amateur golfer, competing in and winning many championships in the large Johnson and Johnson league.
Helen is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann "Cunnea" Nordskog, Cohasset, Minn.; a stepdaughter, Judy "Murray" Walsh (Jim), Elkhorn, Wis.; five grandchildren, Margaret J. Blackburn, Cohasset, Minn., Edward M. Nordskog (Danielle), Newhall, Calif., Rose M. Schumacher, Aitkin, Minn., Mary Nell Deboer (James), Crookston, Minn., Patti A. Campoverde, Grand Forks, N.D.; five great-grandchildren, Josh and Marc Campoverde, Chas Leach, Chet and Mitch Nordskog; and two stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Erlene Duesing and Marie Sharrow, South Holland, Ill.; five nieces and four nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by a son, John Patrick Gunnea III; two husbands, John P. Cunnea Jr. and Jack Murray; her parents, Dan and Anna Chmurynsky; a stepfather, Leo Bisson; brother, George Chmurynsky; sisters, Eve Zavrel, Alice Davidson and Diane Bisson.
