20 years ago (1989)

Terry Holm of Brainerd established a world record time in the eighth annual Athens to Atlanta Roller Blading Marathon. His time in of five hours, seven minutes for the 85-mile event was a record for men's masters division.

30 years ago (1979)

40 years ago (1969)

Brainerd's Charter Commission has asked the city council to put reapportionment on the December ballot, said Fred Casey, commission chair. It would move Brainerd to four ward councilmen and three at large, instead of the current five and two arrangement.

60 years ago (1949)

80 years ago (1929)

The driver in the car crash behind Lowell School, that killed a Brainerd high school girl, has been arrested and charged with homicide. Police charged the man was a "rum runner," and moonshine whiskey was stolen from the scene before police arrived.

100 years ago (1909)

The North Side Runaways played a fast game of football, defeating the strong team of East Brainerd by 42 to 0. The Runaways were masters throughout the game, carrying the ball up and down the field like maddened tigers.
