Nursing, Medical Assistant programs plan open house at Staples campus

=STAPLES Eighty-six Central Lakes College students in three health-care programs will host an open house From 2:30-4:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Staples campus of CLC.

Students in the new Medical Assistant program will join those in Practical Nursing and the Associate Degree nursing programs to showcase labs and technology employed in their training at CLC.

There will be drawings for door prizes and refreshments will be served.

Medical Assistant Recognition Week is Oct. 19-23 in the U.S., according to the American Association of Medical Assistants. On Oct. 22, the 18 students in this first-year diploma program at CLC will provide free blood pressure checks during the Staples Campus Health Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Staples campus has 39 associate degree nursing students and 29 in practical nursing.

Medical assistants perform a variety of duties in a clinic or medical provider office, such as taking vital signs and administering EKGs, shots, breathing treatments, as well as doing paper or computer work.
