PEQUOT LAKES -- Michael D. Greer, 61, Pequot Lakes, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at the VA Hospital in St. Cloud of corticobasal degeneration.
He was born Dec. 8, 1939, in Lake City to Richard E. and Henrietta C. (Sorenson) Greer. He graduated from Pequot Lakes High School. He was a Marine Corps veteran, serving from 1957 to 1959. He married Charlotte Childers on Sept. 30, 1960, in Berea, Ky. He attended St. John's University, Central Lakes College and Bemidji State University, graduating in 1965 with a bachelor degree in education. He was a teacher in the Pillager school system from 1965-1996. He was the athletic director from 1967-1987. He coached high school baseball and football for 20 years as well as girls' softball and junior high basketball and football. He was a member of Jenkins VFW Post No. 3839 and St. Alice Catholic Church in Pequot Lakes.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Shawn Greer, Excelsior, Christopher Greer, Pequot Lakes, Kelly Greer, Hiram, Ga., and Pat Greer, Fall City, Wash.; a daughter, Katherine Lindenberg, Wyoming, Minn.; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Greer, Arlington, Va., and Roger Greer, Denver; and two sisters, Bette Mezzenga, Crosslake, and Patricia Brennan, Mission, Texas.
His parents died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Alice Catholic Church in Pequot Lakes with Father George Zeck officiating. Burial will be in Pequot Lakes City Cemetery with military honors provided by Pequot Lakes Legion Post No. 49 and Jenkins VFW Post No. 3839. Memorials are preferred to CBGD research.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m., at St. Alice Catholic Church in Pequot Lakes and an hour before services Friday at the church.
