ST. CLOUD - Grant Bell netted a goal, off an assist from Nathan Mesa at 32:39, to knot the match at 1 in the first half, but the fourth-seeded Little Falls Flyers couldn't pull off an upset, losing 3-1 to the top-seeded and unbeaten St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders in the Section 8-1A quarterfinals Thursday.
Bell, the eighth-leading scorer in the state, finished the season with 25 goals and six assists.
"We played well," Flyers coach Julie Bell said. "A little mixed up on our plan at the beginning. We let (Michael) Coburn score, but after that we settled down. The game got a little rough, but the kids played tough throughout."
In the second half one player from each team received a red card, forcing both teams to play a man short the remainder of the game.
After losing their first six games and going 1-8, the Flyers made a strong run, closing the season 7-3 in their final 10 games and finishing 8-12 overall.
