ST. CLOUD - The St. Cloud Tech Tigers were one goal better than the Brainerd Warriors boys' soccer team all season.
It held up Wednesday when the second-seeded Tigers eliminated the third-seeded Warriors 1-0 in the Section 8-2A semifinal game at St. Cloud State University.
Tech's leading scorer Ian Krafnick scored in the 48th minute. It turned out to be the difference in the "hard fought match."
"We controlled the whole first half, but we weren't able to get the ball in net," said Warrior head coach Cahil Collins. "We owned the first half, but in the second half Tech came out and worked hard and they got the one goal.
"It was a hard fought game, which is the case anytime we play them."
The Warriors fell to Tech 2-1 on Sept. 2 and 2-1 Sept. 22.
The Warriors managed just three shots on net compared to Tech's 10. Brainerd keeper Brian Sexton finished with nine saves.
It was a season of firsts for the Warriors as they defeated Fergus Falls and Moorhead and won a Section 8-2A playoff game for the first time.
"It was a great season," said Collins. "This is the best record by far Brainerd has ever seen. Even when we won the (Central Lakes) conference our record wasn't as good as it was this year.
"The kids worked hard and did a fantastic job."
