Hazel Katherine Koons died on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, at the age of 90 years, 5 months and 15 days at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Brainerd.
Hazel, daughter of Jacob and Katherine (Sangel) Koons, was born March 14, 1917, in Jackson County, Minn. Following high school she attended business school and also the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris. Following her schooling she enlisted in the United States Navy on May 14, 1943, where she served in World War II. She received an honorable discharge on Nov. 4, 1945. Following her discharge Hazel lived in the Brainerd area, where she worked as a cook. The last 3-1/2 years she had been a resident of the Woodland Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Brainerd. Hazel will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by four sisters, Virginia Lawrence, of Grove City, Marian (Robert) Scribner, of Mankato, Gladys Traphagan, of Kimball, and Ada Koons, of Brainerd; sister-in-law, Elsie Koons, of Gallitan, Tenn.; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Katherine Koons; three sisters, Clara Henricks, Anna Scribner and Mabel Riedel; and six brothers, Alvin Koons, John Koons, Edward Koons, George Koons, Harvey Koons and infant Carl Koons.
