Brainerd High School Senior KoreAnn Martin was crossing her fingers, hoping she'd be named the 2007 Youth Volunteer of the Year.
On Monday, Brainerd Community Action representatives went to Martin's first hour Chamber Orchestra class to tell her the news that she indeed was named the Youth Volunteer of the Year, but Martin was nowhere to be found.
Chamber Orchestra Director Grant Wilcox went on a mission to find Martin and quickly succeeded. Martin was quick to tell her mother, Paula Martin, who was waiting in the orchestra room that, "This is the first time ever that I've been late to class." Martin was rehearsing a piece with the high school band and was running late.
Martin was excited when she found out she was chosen for the award. She told her mom that now she'll get to go dress shopping. She'll be honored at the annual Distinguished Service Awards Banquet on Nov. 1 at Cragun's Legacy Pavilion. The awards program is sponsored by Brainerd Community Action, Brainerd Jaycees and the Brainerd Dispatch.
