LACROSSE, Wis. -- Mary M. Giguere, 96, LaCrosse, Wis., formerly of Brainerd, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at Hillview Health Care Center in LaCrosse, Wis.
She was born Aug. 6, 1906, in Fingal, N.D., to Joseph and Marie (Graf) Puhr. She married Alfred Scrimshaw in 1936 in Brainerd. He died in 1952. She married William Giguere in 1954 in Brainerd. She worked as a supervisor at Hickerson Garment Co., retiring in 1974. She won the Helen Keller Sight Award from the Minnesota Lions Eye Bank for her effort in collecting thousands of used eye glasses per year. She was chosen as lioness of the year three times by the Nisswa Lioness. She was a member of Lioness of Nisswa, Women's Club of Nisswa, Retired Union Workers of Brainerd, Round Lake Association, Women of the Moose and the Brainerd Ladies Drum and Bugle Corps. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and St. Christopher's Catholic Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Lauretta Jahimiak, LaCrosse, Wis.; two stepdaughters, Jeanne Giguere, Minneapolis, and Dianne Giguere, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Her first and second husbands, four sisters, Louise Johnston, Agnes Dowas, Ann McMillan and Theresa Koppel, two brothers, Lawrence Puhr and Herman Puhr, and a grandchild, died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd with Father Seamus Walsh officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and an hour before services Thursday at the church.
