STAPLES -- Staples Motley Community Education will offer a variety of classes. Call (218) 894-2497 to register.
This activity is for third-, fourth- and fifth-graders. The class will read a short book together and have a short creative activity or craft to go with it.
The class will meet 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday in the Staples Elementary School library. Students not picked up at 4:30 p.m. will be sent to Afterschool Adventures.
Class is limited to the first 10 students.
School Years Keepsake -- Scrapbooking
This workshop is for youths ages 13-18. Participants will learn how to scrapbook and complete simple pages.
The class will meet 3:15 to 4:45 p.m. four Tuesdays: Oct. 22, Nov. 5, 26 and Dec. 10. Participants will receive a 7- by 7-inch album (specify color) and school year sticker pack with adhesives included. Bring eight to 10 photos.
Cost is $35.
Defensive Driver Class -- Refresher Course
The Minnesota Safety Council will sponsor a defensive driving course that fulfills insurance discount requirements from 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 24 in Room 100 at Staples Motley High School.
Cost is $15.
English Afternoon Tea
Englishman Rowland Joiner will share the history and importance of afternoon tea and guide the group in "proper" preparation.
Class will run 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Farmhouse on Turtle Lake. The class will end with a traditional tea party. Students are encouraged to "dress" for the occasion.
There are limited seats available. Cost is $10.
Create A Rustic Trellis
Using simple hand tools and readily available natural materials, build a rustic trellis or folding screen.
Bring a hammer, a small saw, garden pruners and any materials from the yard or woods to add or share.
Jeanne Clegg will instruct the class 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Sylvan Shores Community Center. Bring lunch or buy lunch for $5. Class size is limited.
