The Brainerd Warriors have been seeded first in the Section 8-2A girls' soccer tournament and will receive a first-round bye.
The tournament opens Saturday with No. 5 St. Cloud Tech at No. 4 Buffalo and No. 6 Moorhead at No. 3 St. Michael-Albertville.
Brainerd will host the Buffalo-Tech winner at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the semifinals. The other semifinal will send the Moorhead/St. Michael-Albertville winner to No. 2 Elk River.
Championship game is scheduled 7:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at St. Cloud State.
Brainerd boys seeded fourth in Section 8-2A
The Brainerd Warriors are seeded fourth in the Section 8-2A boys' soccer tournament and will host No. 5 St. Cloud Tech at 1 p.m. Saturday at Southdale Field in Baxter.
Other quarterfinal matchups Saturday send No. 7 St. Cloud Apollo to No. 2 Fergus Falls and No. 6 Zimmerman to No. 3 Moorhead.
In Tuesday's semifinals, the Brainerd/Tech winner will play at No. 1 Elk River. The Fergus Falls/Apollo winner will play the Moorhead/Zimmerman winner at the high seed.
Championship game is scheduled 5:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at St. Cloud State.
Sophomores defeat Fergus
The Brainerd Warrior sophomore football team defeated Fergus Falls 38-12 Tuesday.
The Warriors were led on offense by Matt Pohlkamp TD runs of 55 and 12 yards. Mitch McLain had a TD run of 28 yards, plus a 16-yard TD pass to Jimmy Giese. Tommy Olson returned a punt 60 yards for a TD.
Dustin Borlaug and Giese caught 2-point conversion receptions from McLain.
Brainerd's defense held Fergus to 163 total yards.
Brainerd (6-1) plays its final game of the season at 5 p.m. Tuesday against Sartell (7-0) at Adamson Field.
