Unbeaten Pirates shipwreck Owls 7-0

HANCOCK - The third-ranked Verndale Pirates dismantled the Hancock Owls 64-12 Wednesday to improve to 7-0.

The Pheasant Conference North champion Pirates will close the regular season by hosting Chokio-Alberta/Herman-Norcross Tuesday.

Amos Schmidt scored touchdowns on runs of 14, six and three yards, and had a 73-yard kickoff return, to lead the offensive attack for the Pirates.

Colby Schmidt threw a 37-yard touchdown pass to Nate Weise and scored on a 1-yard run.

Dustin Motschenbacher had a 63-yard rushing touchdown, and Jacob Perius scored on a 43-yard scamper to complete the scoring for Verndale.
