Clarence H. Maier

Clarence Henry Maier, age 92, resident of Brainerd/Baxter, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at Good Samaritan Society-Bethany; he was surrounded by family members at his death. Clarence was born on Nov. 22, 1916, in Rice, Minn., to John W. and Sophia (Rodjie) Maier. He was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, the American Legion and the Golden K's. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Clarence enjoyed square dancing with Ray's Promenaders, playing accordion and especially enjoyed time with his family and friends. He loved fishing all year round. He retired as a cement mason and farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; daughters, Phyllis Maier, Janice (Douglas) Bohn, Ardyce Maier; son, Dennis Maier; sister, Loretta Maier; stepchildren, Gary (Sharon) Kramer, Nancy (Alan) Landin, Marilee Lockwood and Philip Kramer; 15-grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, L. Jayne (Maust) Maier; his parents, John and Sophia (Rodjie) Maier; son, Carlos; brothers, Leo and George Maier; and stepdaughter, Donaleen Chapin.

Services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Brainerd with Father John Pearson officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Crow Wing County Township. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue the hour before services at the church on Friday.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.

Arrangements are with the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home, Brainerd.
