Tech swims past Warriors

ST. CLOUD - Siri Smith won the 100-yard backstroke and was a member of the winning 400 freestyle relay, but the Brainerd Warrior swimming and diving team was unable to overcome the CLC leading St. Cloud Tech Tigers as they lost 106-80 Tuesday.

Joining Smith on the winning relay team was Nikki Hansen, Sarah Dens and Destiney Schindele. Schindele finished second in both the 50 frees and 100 fly and was also a member of the second-place 200 medley relay with Smith, Della Gramer and Alex Erickson.

Sam Smith won the diving with a 230.90 followed by Tiffany Etterman in third and Katy Etterman in fourth.

Laura Goll led Brainerd to a 1-2-3 finish in the 500 freestyle with a first-place time of 5:47.17, while Stephanie Hansen and Bailey Geraets finished second and third.

"They are the best team in the conference right now," Brainerd coach Dan Anderson said of St. Cloud Tech. "They are undefeated and for us to come down here and win we had to have everything go our way. Our divers dove very well, but all night I was hoping at some point we could steal a race that we weren't supposed to win and that just never happened. In the end the better team got the win tonight."
