FARGO, N.D. - Staples-Motley's Abby Edin captured the singles championship and the Cardinals' Skye Coughlin-Emma Koskiniemi finished second in the Section 6-1A individual tennis tournament Tuesday.
The top two singles players and top two doubles teams advance to the Class 1A state tournament Oct. 24-25.
Edin beat Rachael Grundman of Osakis 6-1, 6-2 for her title.
Coughlin-Koskiniemi lost to Laura Paulson-Alicia Pfeninger of Minnewaska 6-1, 6-1 in the championship match.
S-M's doubles team of Julia Schock-Ashley Lisson and Wadena-Deer Creek singles player Katie Anderson finished third.
