VIRGINIA - Kelsey Klucas is headed back to the Class 1A state girls' tennis tournament and she's not alone.
The Aitkin Gobblers' doubles team of Alice Browning-Allie Carlson defeated Cori Lundmark-Kirstie Harmdierks of Pequot Lakes 6-3, 6-2 to capture the Section 7-1A championship and advance to their first state tournament Tuesday.
Lundmark-Harmdierks also head to their first state tournament as the top two doubles teams and singles players advance.
Klucas was dealt her first defeat of the season, but still secured a spot in the Class 1A state singles tournament for the second straight year.
Klucas dispatched her first two opponents in straight sets before dropping a tight, three-set match to Virginia's Amanda Arbogast in the final.
Crosby-Ironton's Hanna Christenson and Kaitlyn Risnes ended their season with a quarterfinal loss.
Pierz's Hayley Bujalski and Cassie Banick lost in the quarterfinals as did the Pierz doubles team of Kaari Jensen-Jayme Sczublewski.
