Correction/clarification

A letter by council member Bob Olson in Sunday's Open Forum incorrectly described a budget vote taken at the Sept. 8 meeting.

Olson said the budget included the $300,000 tax increase and noted he was the only council member to vote against it. He said the budget has increased by $300,000 and that it was unnecessary because other city expenditures could have been cut.

Council member Mary Koep, who joined Olson in voting against the levy (which included a $300,000 tax increase) said Monday she understood that the budget did not contain the tax increase. Brainerd Finance Director Theresa Goble and Brainerd City Council President Kevin Goedker agreed with Koep. Goble said the budget did not reflect the debt service fund.
