Great comebacks by Brainerd's No. 1 and 2 singles players, juniors Sue Pettit and Carol Laimer, helped them both move to the finals of the South Region 8AA Girl's Individual Tennis Tournament here. Pettit won with a 6-2, 7-5 triumph, but both move on to regions.
40 years ago (1969)
A new policy on suspension and expulsion was approved by the school board. First offense will draw a suspension necessitating a parent conference. Second offense will draw a suspension of up to two weeks. Third offense may mean an expulsion.
60 years ago (1949)
Harrison drubbed Whittier 33-0 in a Brainerd Grade School league touch football contest. Dave Wiggins sparked Harrison by running for two TDs and passing to Tommy Jacobson for two more. Lowell and Lincoln lead the league with Whittier in the cellar.
80 years ago (1929)
Police today hunted a dog with a mania for killing chickens. Thirteen chickens were killed in the hennery of J.H. Miller on Bluff Avenue, and 30 were victimized at the Brusseau residence on South Sixth Street.
100 years ago (1909)
Con O'Neil, residing on Fir Street, died at St. Joseph's Hospital last night the result of injuries received when struck by the Minnesota and International north-bound freight train. He was walking to the dam to look for work when he was struck near the cemetery.
