Montana-born pianist George Winston provided an impromptu workshop for music students Tuesday on the Brainerd campus of Central Lakes College. He demonstrated techniques of guitar, focusing on Hawaiian slack-key with a tune called "Night Divides My Day," then puffed away on the harmonica with an Irish tune, "Hasty Wedding," and capped the hour-long tutorial with samples of his three playing styles - folk, stride and New Orleans R & B on the same song. The grand finale was a six-minute treatment of "Riders in the Storm," by the Doors, which he intended to recreate Tuesday night during his concert.
