Vargos fly high in '09

Lance Vargo, 21, from rural Pequot Lakes won quest for the cup year-end championships in Open C and in the 14-24 C class in American Motocross Association District 23 competition this season.

Vargo also finished second in state competition for Open C, which had 171 riders, and second in the state in the 14-24 C class, which had 184 riders. He raced a 450 Honda.

Lance Vargo won quest for the cup year-end champion-ships in the Open C and 14-24 C classes.

Amber Vargo, a sophomore at Pillager High School who won the girls' 2008 championship at the Race Freex track south of Brainerd on an 85cc Suzuki, stepped up this year to compete in the women's class on a bigger bike, a 2006 Yamaha 250. Vargo won this year's women's class championship at Race Freex and was second in the women's quest for the cup series. She finished fourth in the state in women's motocross out of 51 riders.

Sponsors of Amber and Lance were Dale's Mobile Home Transport, Brothers Motorsports in Brainerd and MSR Clothing.

Also riding this year was Trevor Vargo, who placed second in the quest for the cup in the 250cc class on a 1999 Honda 250.
