GRAND FORKS. N.D. -- Brainerd's Kayla Huether became the first Warrior singles player to advance to the section tournament in 13 years following her finish in the North Subsection 8, Class 2A girls' tennis meet Thursday.
Huether won her first two matches and finished fourth after forfeiting her third-place match because of illness.
The Brainerd sophomore is believed to be the first Warrior to qualify for the section singles tournament since Caryn Anderson and Jeanne Jones advanced in 1992.
Brainerd's other subsection entrants Thursday were eliminated. Emily Nelson lost her only singles match. The doubles teams of Abby Ahlberg-Erica Mortensen and Catherine Luckemeyer-Amber Arnoldy all lost their first matches.
