Sarah Shields Yatckoske, age 85, resident of Baxter, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, at Bethany Good Samaritan Village. Sarah was born in Brainerd Aug. 8, 1920, to Ed and Hannah (Hanson) Rale. She attended Little Falls schools and was a graduate of St. Cloud State University. Sarah married Marvin J. Yatckoske Nov. 9, 1942, in Morrill, Minn. Marvin died in 2002.
She was an elementary school teacher for 38 years, beginning her career teaching in a one-room school. Sarah was named Brainerd Teacher of the Year in 1978. Her memberships included First Lutheran Church in Brainerd, Bethany Good Samaritan Village Auxiliary, Crow Wing County Historical Society, Brainerd Garden Club, Retired Educators Association of MN, St. Joseph's Medical Center Auxiliary and volunteer, Sharing Bread Soup Kitchen volunteer, RSVP and the Sons of Norway.
She is survived by daughter, Linda A. Morgan; granddaughters, Cara Morgan and Elizabeth (Michael) Helfrich; and great-granddaughter, Natalie Helfrich.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; brothers William, George and Edward Tindell; and sisters, Florence Rhodes and Marge Worlie.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, at First Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastor Kristin Kelsey officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and the hour before services Saturday at the church.
