Posted: Tuesday, October 13, 2009

WALKER - The Mississippi Headwaters Board will be conducting a strategic planning session meeting at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Chase on the Lake in Walker, 502 Cleveland Boulevard West.

The monthly meeting of the MHB will immediately follow this strategic planning session about 2:30 p.m.

The Mississippi Headwaters Board meets monthly to review and certify zoning activities and to discuss land use and water quality issues in the Mississippi Headwaters. Meetings are generally in Walker, but occasionally are moved throughout the region. The strategic planning session is designed to re-energize the MHB mission and open valuable dialog with local and state stakeholders.

If you would like to receive a copy of the agenda or minutes for any of the meetings or have zoning questions or concerns and would like to be added to a future agenda, call the MHB office at (218) 947-7524 or your local planning and zoning administrator.

Brainerd Lakes Area Youth as Resources grant dollars available

Brainerd Lakes Area Youth as Resources currently has grant dollars available for youth-led service projects carried out in the Brainerd lakes area.

Grants are offered for projects that put the ideas and energy of young people to work to address important community needs. The projects must be designed and carried out by young people with adults serving as advisers and the youths must partner with a nonprofit to act as the fiscal agent. Each project must have a realistic budget with solid plans. Funding priority will be given to projects that build leadership skills, raise self-esteem, strengthen the community and build relationships between youths and adults.

The mission of Youth as Resources is to empower young people to make a contribution through service projects of their own design that bring about positive change. Youth as Resources engages youths as partners with adults to bring about positive community-based change, grants money to youth-led community service projects that benefit the community and is an opportunity for youths to make a positive contribution to their community.
