If Jim Bailiff was frustrated at the beginning of the cross country running season, the last week has obliterated those feelings. Over the weekend he paced the 21-team Alexandria Invitational, and Wednesday he won the Central Lakes Conference title at Little Falls.

Charges are pending against six persons following a skirmish early Saturday morning in the parking lot at the Holiday Inn and The Pocket. At its peak it involved 15 to 20 citizens and six Brainerd police officers.
40 years ago (1969)
The Brainerd area got its first taste of winter weather this weekend putting an end to summer vacation. Snow started falling yesterday afternoon and was still flurrying today.

Razing of the Mill Street bridge is now under way said a spokesman for the state highway department. At present the south end of the bridge is being torn out.

A Crosby man was exonerated of blame in the death of a 7-year-old girl who was thrown headfirst from his truck when it struck a bump in the road. The inquest was conducted by county attorney Art Sullivan and coroner D. E. Whitney.
100 years ago (1909)
W.C. White, who was in the city today, says that Cuyler Adams and family are not at all worried about their son, who is in the north near Hudson Bay with Prof. C. K. Leith. They are searching for ore deposits and not expected in civilization until October.
