Taking one step at a time toward achieving healthy goals
As we head into the cold and flu season, exercise is very important to include in your daily routine.

During the summer, Margaret walks all over town. Once fall comes, she is leery of walking outdoors just in case it is slippery.
Margaret is a member of the Lakes Area Senior Activity Center and read in our monthly newsletter that we have exercise programs and equipment that our members can use for free. She came in and received some training on the equipment, signed a release form and began walking on the treadmill three times a week. Margaret met others who were using the equipment for the same reason.
If you, like Margaret, want a safe way to exercise, come to the senior center for a tour. You'll find out what we have to offer and you too may make the goal to exercise through the winter.
We also have a chair exercise class, Bone Builders, which meets on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 11 a.m. for about a half an hour. This is an exercise class where you sit on a chair or stand behind one so you are safe at all times. Statistics show that Bone Builder participants increase their bone density by attending this class and it is a great way to increase your balance which helps prevent falls. Our instructor is Helga; she makes sure the class is fun and it is a great way to meet other seniors as well.
As we head into the cold and flu season, exercise is very important to include in your daily routine. Stop into the senior center and we will help get you started on your way to healthier living. The Lutheran Social Services Dining Site serves a noon meal Monday through Friday, beginning at 11:15 a.m. They prepare a balanced meal, complete with calorie count for you. Margaret and others who participate in the exercise programs at the center sometimes eat lunch at the dining site.
Becoming healthier is a goal we all need to work on. You are not alone. Join others who are working toward that goal also. The senior center is located at 803 Kingwood Street, Brainerd. Stop in to see us, you'll be glad you did.
