Sharing Bread Soup Kitchen
Thanks to all for another good month of working together to serve those in need in our community. In August we served a total of 993 meals. We were open 27 days. This represents an average of 37 meals served per day. The hot weather resulted in fewer numbers of folks out and about, but we seem to be back on our normal fall pace as I write. Thanks again for all of your help in making this ministry possible.
Special thanks are due again this month to many people, churches and organizations. In addition to your financial gifts, we also received gifts of food from the following: Green Mill, Chileen Painting, The Crisis Line, Jack Borden, the Walker family, June Erickson, Sharon Smith, Brainerd Teachers' Union, MS Support Group, Legion Hall, Kent Pikula, Lord of Life, First Lutheran, Bethlehem Lutheran, Park United Methodist Church, and Roger and Ardelle Erickson. Thanks again for the generosity of Lakes Area Mats.
Thanks for thinking of us!

Great pet care
My husband and I recently took a two-week vacation and boarded our two dogs and two rabbits at Pine Shadows.
They graciously accommodated our two house rabbits in their "kitty condos" where they had a window looking outside and a spacious, clean area to roam. My two dogs were able to stay in the same "run" together at our request so as to keep each other company. They were walked many times a day, and I'm sure they enjoyed the treat cart that made its rounds each day. They were fed the same food as at home, and the staff was kind enough to even wash the blankets that we brought for the dogs to lay on. They also took great care in giving one of our dogs the medicine he needs for his allergies and were even able to brush our rabbits, which isn't easy.
We really appreciate the peace of mind we had knowing that our pets were so well taken care of while we were away. Thank you to the great staff at Pine Shadows for the personalized, attentive service you gave our "furry kids."

Class of 1941 reunion
My wife and I want to thank all members of the committee who organized and put together the recent reunion for the Washington High School Class of 1941. This was a lot of work and you all did a good job. We enjoyed seeing many old grads. So yes, "Thank you very much."

Quit smoking
I would like to thank all of the wonderful people who gave their time and support in the Fresh Start Quit Smoking Program, including the following individuals:
All my co-workers at Crow Wing Public Health, special thanks to Maggie Yount and Karen McKenna who took time out of their busy schedules; Ron Brasven, chemical dependency counselor/social service; Lori Schwartzwald, pharmacist at the Medicine Shoppe; Micky Feyder, nutritionist at the University of Minnesota Agricultural Extension Office; and Lori Marie Orliner and daughters for helping make the "Nicodemon" dolls.
And a most special thanks for all those wonderful people who participated in the Fresh Start Quit Smoking Program. You were the reason for our being there.
Thank you again.
