Highway 210 delays expected

BAXTER -- Motorists should plan for delays on Highway 210 from Elder Drive South to Baxter Drive from Monday through Saturday .

The Minnesota Department of Transportation said Highway 210 traffic will be single lane in each direction, daylight hours only, as crews construct a temporary crossover and widen traffic lanes for a $3.7 million highway improvement project scheduled next construction season.

Women's Health Day slated for Tuesday in Crosby

CROSBY -- Women's Health Day will be hosted from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday by appointment at Central Lakes Medical Center and Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby.

This program offers convenient access to health care for working women. One-stop is meant to offer women preventative care with one appointment. This appointment will include a pelvic exam, pap smear, breast exam performed by a physician or physician's assistant and a mammogram performed by a registered mammography technologist.

These exams are available at no cost to women 40 or older, who are uninsured or have a co-pay and meet generous income guidelines.

The event is sponsored by Central Lakes Medical Center, Cuyuna Regional Medical Center, Crow Wing County Health Department, Minnesota Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Blood drive planned

at Westgate Mall

The Westgate Mall will host an American Red Cross blood drive from 2-6 p.m. Oct. 21. Call the mall office at 828-1668 to schedule an appointment to help with the blood supply shortage.

Oberstar announces firefighter safety, operations funding

WALKER -- Congressman Jim Oberstar has announced the Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded funding for fire operations and firefighter safety to five fire departments in northern Minnesota under its Assistance to Firefighters Program.

The Walker Fire Department was awarded $18,509.
