Patriots win Birch Tree title
PINE RIVER - The Pequot Lakes Patriots cross country team won boys' and girls' titles at the Birch Tree Conference meet Tuesday.
Clayton Foster of Pequot Lakes took home boys' individual honors with a time of 16:49. Teammate Kellen Braren was runner-up at 17:09.
Kylie Beltz, also of Pequot Lakes, won the girls' race with a time of 17:11.
Pillager took second in the boys' race and third in the girls' meet. John Knebel was the first Huskie to cross the line, placing fourth. Kim Rardin finished sixth to lead the Pillager girls' team.
Pine River-Backus placed third in the boys' competition and fifth in the girls' race. The Tigers were paced by a ninth-place finish from Nathan Smith and by Ashley Kennedy who was fifth.
