A 25-year-old Crosby man who was reportedly fleeing from a Crosby police officer early Saturday was killed after he lost control of his motorcycle and was hit by the officer's squad car.
About 2:10 a.m. Crosby police officer Gary Frehse, 47, attempted to stop a suspect, later identified as Ronald Merrill Frink III, who was driving a 1981 Honda motorcycle on Crow Wing County Road 30 in Ironton, the State Patrol reported. Crosby police officer Jesse Smith said he didn't know for what offense Frehse was attempting to stop Frink.
A short pursuit followed for about four blocks, to the intersection of Curtis Avenue and Second Street in Ironton. Attempting to turn onto a gravel road, Smith said Frink lost control and was thrown from his motorcycle into the path of Frehse's squad car.
Frink was pronounced dead at the scene. Frehse was uninjured.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department assisted at the scene.
