20 years ago (1988)

Retail growth in Baxter, as measured in percentages, led all non-metropolitan Minnesota cities over to the last five years. Opening of the Westport Shopping Center and Westgate Mall sparked much, but not all the growth.

30 years ago (1978)

Mike Millam, with four first places, and Tim Frazer with a pair, led coach Paul Bloom's Brainerd High School Warriors to a 109.48 to 99.82 gymnastics win over the Warrior alumni.

40 years ago (1968)

Robert Alderman, president of the Brainerd YMCA, announced plans for a capital funds campaign to complete the YMCA building and facilities. The generous $200,000 estate gift of Louis Hostager prompted the Brainerd community to raise an additional $315,000 in 1960 which made possible the erection of the present YMCA.

60 years ago (1948)

Your Brainerd students at the University of Minnesota have been pledged to fraternities. Henry Mills and Stewart Mills are pledged to Alpha Delta Phi and Bob Hoffman and John Krekelberg to Zeta Psi.

80 years ago (1928)

J.F. Cibuzar, Brainerd, was elected president of the Minnesota Sate Bottler's Association at the closing sessions of the organization at the Spalding Hotel in Duluth.

100 years ago (1908)

Two weddings - one reception.

Mary Rosealla Turcotte weds Arthur E. Hardy and Mary Calphurna Waite weds Fremond H. Turcotte.
