A Cass Lake man who in September pleaded guilty to murdering his father has been sentenced to more than 15 years prison.
Ronald David Mann, 51, was sentenced Thursday in Cass County District Court for second-degree murder to 15.5 years in prison for the Aug. 22, 2007, murder of his father, 71-year-old Ivan Mann.
Ivan and Ronald Mann both lived in a wooded area of rural Cass Lake. Ivan Mann had been missing for more than a week when his body was found Aug. 22, 2007, in a wooded area of his property.
The Ramsey County medical examiner's office ruled Ivan Mann's death as a homicide, with the manner of death being manual strangulation accompanied by blunt force trauma to the head.
After receiving a search warrant, Cass County sheriff's deputies found apparent blood splatter on the walls and floor in both Ronald and Ivan Mann's residences, clothing with apparent blood stains in a wood burning stove and jeans and a sheet in a kitchen sink that appeared to have blood stains.
Ronald Mann was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison.
Ronald Mann initially told investigators he had found his father lying dead on the floor and attempted CPR but was unsuccessful. He then said he panicked and disposed of Ivan Mann's body.
In a subsequent interview with investigators, Ronald Mann said he had an argument with Ivan Mann and had struck him with a bloody towel.
