LITTLE FALLS -- Othmar Joseph Rausch, 81, Little Falls, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at home.
He was born Feb. 3, 1919, in Lastrup to John and Theresa (Eickhoff) Rausch. He attended country grade school in Lastrup and graduated from Little Falls High School in 1938. After his graduation, he drove truck. He entered the Army on Feb. 10, 1941. He was discharged Aug. 11, 1945. During his military career, he worked in motor transportation and served in the battles of Normandy, northern France and Rhineland. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal and Six Overseas Service Bars. He married Mildred "Millie" L. Strange on Nov. 2, 1943, at Catholic Chapel Desparked Park in Devizes, England. They lived in Monticello for five years and then moved to Little Falls. He worked at Hennepin Paper Co. as a supervisor for 32 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Little Falls, Little Falls VFW Post No. 1112, Knights of Columbus, Lucky Lindy Good Sam Club and square dancers club.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, David, Princeton, Duane, Monticello, and Donald, Elk River; two daughters, Janet Sanderson, Little Falls, and Jane Rausch, Maplewood; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Francis Rausch, Denver; and six sisters, Hilaria "Larrie" Jost, Golden Valley, Lorella Andings, Rochester, Geraldine Martin, Grand Rapids, Irma Ringwelski, St. Cloud, Cellestine "Cele" Boyd, Buffalo, and Theresa Zach, Missouri.
An infant daughter, Joan, a sister, Lenore Ringwelski, and a brother, Cyri Rausch, died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Little Falls with the Rev. Nick Landsberger officiating. Burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery of Little Falls.
Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. today, with parish prayers at 5:30 p.m., and from 8-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Shelley Funeral Chapel of Little Falls.
