The Minnesota Department of Agriculture collected waste pesticides totaling 6,067 pounds from 12 participants on Sept. 21 at the Crow Wing County Landfill/Hazardous Waste Facility in Brainerd.
MDA-sponsored collections have removed more than six tons of unwanted and unusable herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and other pesticides from Crow Wing County since this program began. Most of the pesticides collected come from farms, but other pesticide users, including households and other businesses, also participate.
Statewide, the amount of waste pesticides collected by the MDA, exceeds 2 million pounds. All collected pesticides get special handling and are eventually destroyed at a hazardous waste incinerator.
