Brainerd dominates depleted Willmar

WILLMAR - Laura Goll inched ever so close to her season goal of breaking the school record in the 500-yard freestyle as she won the event Thursday with a 5:34.38 helping Brainerd defeat Willmar 106-76.

Brainerd won all but two individual events as Willmar was handicapped with sickness.

"The flu has really hit Willmar hard," said Warrior head coach Dan Anderson. "They only had 13 swimmers so they didn't have a chance. They couldn't fill their lineup. We knew what was going to happen, but still Laura Goll's 500 was amazing. It's the fastest anyone has ever swam in our program in the middle of the season. We're excited about that."

Overall Anderson said the Warriors swam OK, but hopes for a strong effort Saturday when they compete in the Section 8-2A True Team meet.

Sarah Dens won the 100 and 200 freestyles. Siri Smith captured the 200 individual medley and backstroke. Brainerd swept the diving with Katy Etterman's 192.65 leading the way and Alex Erickson topped the 100 butterfly.
