Gobblers get best of Patriots

AITKIN - Tori Sundholm defeated Jasmine Nordby and the doubles teams swept their matches propelling the Aitkin Gobblers to a 4-3 defeat of the Pequot Lakes Patriots Thursday.

Nicole Beneke finished with a 20-3 regular season record and Anna Browning went 16-6 for the Gobblers, but both suffered losses to close out the season.

Megan Lenz defeated Beneke 6-2, 6-2 and Angela Villella downed Anna Browning 6-2, 6-1. Tricia Villella also picked up a win for the Patriots at No. 4 singles.

Mikayla Wing won at No. 3 singles and Annie Kautto captured her No. 4 singles match.

CROSBY - Alice Bertram won her No. 4 singles match, and the Crosby-Ironton Rangers picked up a pair of doubles wins, but it wasn't enough as the fourth-seeded Rangers were edged out 4-3 by the fifth-seeded Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers in the opening round of the North Subsection 7-1A tournament Thursday.

C-I's Brittany Metsa-Venessa Hudrlik won the No. 2 doubles match 6-3, 6-0 and Shannon Lundgren-Meredith Silgen won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 doubles.
