PINE RIVER -- The second annual Health and Safety Fair will run 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Pine River-Backus High School commons/cafeteria in Pine River.
The fair, sponsored by Pine River-Backus Community Education, will mark the end of Fire Safety Week. Resources will be available to people of all ages, in addition to a variety of workshops, demonstrations, activities, screening checks and food by Chefs in Motion.
North Air Care will have an emergency helicopter air lift landing at 11 a.m. on the school's baseball field. Other events will include a fire safety demonstration; child finger printing records with the Pine River Police Department; guided massage; breast self-exams; aromatherapy, foot work-reflexology; the Pine River-Backus Improv Troupe skit presentation on reducing stress; a labyrinth walk; and environmentally safe cleaning products.
Screenings and tests offered will include blood pressure by the parish nurses of Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Hackensack; blood sugar tests by the Pine River Lions Club; and spinal checks. There may be a nominal fee for some tests.
Resources for teen-agers, such as Improv Troupe and Rock Sober, will be present along with a program that works with teen abstinence and pregnancy prevention.
Students Against Drunk Driving and Target Market groups will run inflatable games for a fee to demonstrate ways to take healthy risks. Healthy Beginnings, a program of the Pine River-Backus Family Center for mothers of infants, will be present. North Ambulance Service and the Pine River Fire Department will be present to answer questions.
Safety resources will include Pine River-Backus' Working Together group, who will raise awareness around violence prevention, the Family Safety Network will address domestic and family violence and the Crisis Line and Referral Service will be present.
Whispering Pines Good Samaritan resources will be available, including CPR demonstrations and physical therapy representatives.
