High school page program offers a close look at the Legislature
Rep. John Ward, DFL-Brainerd, is inviting area high school students to experience the Legislature in action as part of the House of Representatives High School Page Program.
This program allows high school juniors to spend a week at the Capitol in St. Paul meeting with state representatives and assisting members during the legislative session.
Students selected for the program will meet individually with House members and discuss issues that matter to them, assist members during session and participate in mock committee debates to inspire them to think critically about the issues facing the state.
Students will have an opportunity to meet with constitutional officers, members of the judiciary, lobbyists and members of the media.
Minnesota high school students in their junior year are encouraged to submit an application by Nov. 14, and if admitted, will be assigned to participate for one week during the 2008 legislative session with other students from across the state.
Applications are available online, at www.house.leg.state.mn.us/edprog/introletter.asp or by calling the House Educational Programs Office at (651) 296-7452. Interested persons with questions may contact Rep. Ward at (651) 296-4333 or rep.john.ward@house.mn.
