20 years ago (1988)

Marv Nutting spent his first night in Brainerd on a park bench. Sixty-two years later he is to be honored as Citizen of the Year. He came here mainly to play baseball. On Nov. 19, Brainerd will pay him back during a banquet for the dozens of contributions he made to the community.

30 years ago (1978)

A painting entitled, Sleeping Village, by Homer Dimmick of Pequot Lakes, has been selected for Northwestern Bells 1979 appointment calendar.

40 years ago (1968)

A total of 850 passengers boarded planes at North Central Airlines during September compared with 73 outgoing passengers in the same month last year. Passengers arriving in Brainerd were slightly less.

60 years ago (1948)

Bebe Shopp of Hopkins, and Miss America of 1948, will be in Brainerd Jan. 22 for the Paul Bunyan Territorial Centennial Coronation Ball, sponsored by the Local Junior Chamber of Commerce.

80 years ago (1928)

¥ Genuine Arvin Heaters $1.95 to $8.95. You will need a heater for your car at the Gamble Store.

¥ American Legion will give to the person selling the greatest number of tickets for their home talent show one $20 wrist watch.

100 years ago (1908)

Brainerds new clothing store opens its doors to the public. In the new Cullen block- Front and Seventh Streets. A high grade store featuring best known lines at popular prices. Bye and Peterson. Clothing and gents furnishing.
