WALKER - Minnesota Department of Transportation has completed a speed survey on County State Aid Highway 77 from the Cass-Crow Wing County line to the west limits of East Gull Lake and will make no change from the 55-mph speed limit.
Cass County Engineer David Enblom reported this information to the county board Tuesday. He said that speed was first set in 1995.
The commissioners reported Tuesday after holding a closed meeting Sept. 23 for annual performance evaluations that each of the department heads interviewed met the qualifications to continue in their positions another year.
They include Administrator Robert Yochum, HHVS Director Dorothy Opheim, Auditor-Treasurer Sharon Anderson, MIS Director Tim Richardson, Chief Financial Officer Larry Wolfe, ESD Director John Sumption and Land Commissioner Norm Moody.
Cass has obtained an easement from Joanne Gitchel for $5,000 and Tianna Golf Course for $16,000 to complete the new water line extension from Walker to Ah-Gwah-Ching along a line adjacent to the existing sewer line connection.
The city of Cass Lake and Cass County have approved an agreement for the county to provide police services in Cass Lake, replacing the former city police department. Cass Lake will pay the county $290,000 annually, beginning in 2009, for three full-time deputies and one part-time supervisor, three fully equipped squad cars, fuel for the vehicles and administrative services.
