-A 23-year-old Brainerd man faces a charge of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend several times early Saturday in southeast Brainerd.
Dominic Donald Duane Dubois was arraigned Tuesday in Crow Wing County District Court on charges of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault resulting in great bodily harm, second-degree assault and third-degree assault resulting in substantial bodily harm.
Dubois is accused of stabbing Jeffrey Ryan Bock, 27, several times while Bock sat in a pickup at the residence of Dubois and his girlfriend, Sarah Pace, on the 1200 block of Rosewood Street.
Dominic Dubois was charged in the stabbing of Jeffrey Bock.
Dubois is being held in the Crow Wing County jail on $500,000 bail without conditions and $250,000 with conditions. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 27.
According to the criminal complaint filed against Dubois:
- About 8:30 p.m. Friday, Pace and Dubois were at their home drinking alcohol, watching television and playing cards with friends. Pace wanted to go to a downtown bar and was given a ride by a friend who agreed to pick her up and bring her home at 1 a.m.
- At a bar Pace met several individuals, including her ex-boyfriend, Bock. Pace, Bock and another individual were given a ride back to Pace's residence about 1 a.m. While driving to her residence, Pace called Dubois and told her Bock was in the vehicle.
- At Pace's residence, Bock stayed in the back seat while Pace went inside to grab a couple of beers and another passenger left to go to the bathroom.
- A short time later, Dubois entered the vehicle and began stabbing Bock with a knife. Bock told officers that he attempted to kick Dubois and was stabbed in the leg. Bock also was stabbed several times in the back.
- Another passenger removed Dubois and Bock was taken to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. At the hospital, it was determined Bock lost 1-2 liters of blood and officers were informed by hospital staffers that had Bock not been quickly transported to the hospital he likely would have bled to death. Information on his condition was unavailable Tuesday.
Dubois later turned himself in to officers at the Brainerd Police Department.
Dubois' criminal history dating back to 2003 includes charges for DWI in Carlton and Cass counties; disorderly conduct, theft, careless driving, driving with no proof of insurance, underage consumption and driving after license cancellation in Crow Wing County; and felony damage to property in Mille Lacs County.
