MOTLEY - Genevieve Eckes Hall, resident of Motley, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2007.
Genevieve was born Jan. 13, 1913, in Morton, Minn., to Matthias and Catherine (Ditter) Eckes. She was raised in rural Motley and attended Holy Name Boarding School in Medina. She graduated from St. Benedict's High School and completed her education requirements to teach. She taught in country schools in rural Motley until her marriage to Roy G. Hall on Aug. 9, 1937.
Gen and Roy started their married life in Duluth, where their four daughters were born. After 11 years the family returned to the Motley area, where they lived on the Eckes farm near Leader until 1952. They moved to the town of Motley in December 1952.
Gen was employed at the Staples Hospital as an X-ray and lab technician until her retirement in 1975. She served as a Staples Hospital Board member for 25 years. She was very active in St. Michael's Parish serving as organist and choir director for 12 years. She was a member of Christian Women and St. Anne's Circle.
Gen loved to travel, bowl, golf, read and play games. She especially enjoyed card games. She was active in numerous community organizations including Study Club, Birthday Club, Card Club and Grandpeople. Gen was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her strong faith was and continues to be an inspiration to many.
Survivors include her loving daughters, Jean (David) Soltis of St. Francis, Celestine (Roy) Androli of Baxter, Kathleen (Len) Thiede of Plymouth and Jenny (Mike) Holden of Brainerd; eight grandchildren, Jay (Karen) Soltis, Craig Soltis, John Thiede S.J., Jeff (Susan) Thiede, Kay (Mike) Paulus, Jill (Larry) McCulley, Beth (Eric) Kunstleben, Troy Androli; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Roy; and three sisters, Katherine Flategraff, Elizabeth Kanzig and Marie Sullivan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Motley at 10:30 a.m. with Father John Thiede S.J. officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and one hour before services at St. Michael's Church on Wednesday.
