WILLMAR -- The Brainerd Warriors girls' soccer team ended its record setting season on a down note as they were edged out by the Willmar Cardinals 1-0 Monday.
Willmar's Alison Adamson scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the first half on a Kayla Hendrickson assist. Cardinal goalie Kelsey Fehl was unflappable between the posts as she stopped all eight Warrior shots.
Brainerd goalie Becka Gellert was suffocating in goal for the Warriors as she collected 18 saves on the day. But in the end is was the Cardinals' dominance in the shots-on-goal that did in the Warriors.
"I just didn't have my team prepared today," said Brainerd coach Steve Kimble. "We all learned a lesson in underestimating a team with a lower record. Willmar did to us what we've done to teams all year long."
