WALKER -- A 21-year-old Shakopee man beaten with a baseball bat Sunday in Federal Dam died Monday.
And now a 16-year-old male arrested Saturday in the assault faces murder, assault and kidnapping charges.
The victim, Brian Jenny, was airlifted Saturday to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale with severe head injuries. He died at the hospital shortly before 11 a.m. Monday, Cass County Sheriff Randy Fisher reported today.
Jenny, who with his brother had rented cabins in Federal Dam, was assaulted early Saturday on the streets of Federal Dam. Fisher said Jenny, the suspects and several others took part in the altercation and he believed alcohol was involved. He said Jenny and the suspects weren't acquaintances.
Kidnapping charges will be considered against the juvenile because it is believed he helped move Jenny after the assault. Hunters found Jenny later Saturday morning along a public road in a low-land area about two miles from Federal Dam, said Fisher.
A delinquency petition, which is similar to a criminal complaint, filed against the juvenile charged second-degree murder, first-degree assault and kidnapping against the 16-year-old.
The juvenile suspect is being held at a juvenile detention facility. He was arrested Saturday after turning himself in to Burnsville police.
A 19-year-old woman was arrested at her Bena residence in connection with the assault, and is being held in Cass County Jail pending formal charges.
An autopsy on Jenny is scheduled with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office. Fisher said the assault is still under investigation.
