Another Jack Graham-Stephen Rathke battle was joined when Graham supporters opened a write-in campaign for county attorney. Graham, who ran unsuccessfully against Rathke in 1982, has said if elected he will return to "clean up the county attorney's office."

William Graham, 75, a founder of First Federal Savings and Loan, died today at his Gull Lake home. He graduated from Brainerd High School and the University of Minnesota. His activities included being a co-founder and co-owner of KLIZ Radio.

It was announced today that William and Sharon Reed of Manhattan Beach have purchased the former Akre's Dutch Oven restaurant building in Crosslake. They plan to operate a meat market, deli and specialty food store at that location.
60 years ago (1950)
The duck season opened yesterday noon and there successful reports from near Brainerd. Today, the birds are flying high and out of range. Jim Gardner, Bud Nyquist, Tom Ryan and John Nelson got 15 mallards, all good-sized, and one wood duck close to town.
80 years ago (1930)
While his son, Floyd, said "Go ahead, hit him dad," Allie Louchs, elderly Pillager farmer, gave his neighbor, Alfred Fuchs a black eye over the division of some hay. Louchs was acquitted of assault charges when it was discovered Fuchs had hit him first with a club.
100 years ago (1910)
P.E. McCabe of South Fifth Street was in municipal court on complaint of Officer Hegbloom for selling liquor on Sunday. McCabe is said to have sold one glass each to seven individuals.
